The organization's collections and programs illuminate important aspects of New York's heritage, including financial history, Revolutionary War, immigration. Ellis Island processed over 12 million immigrants entering the United States.

The Chemung County Historical Society is located at 415 East Water Street in Elmira, New York 14901. Founded in 1923, the society preserves Southern Tier history and stewards the Mark Twain Study where the author wrote many of his famous works during summer visits.
