About The Williamson Museum
Celebrating Williamson County Heritage Since 1997
Established in 1997 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and opening to the public in 2003, The Williamson Museum serves as the official county history museum for Williamson County, which was founded in 1848. Located at 716 S. Austin Avenue on Georgetown's historic town square, the museum occupies the former Farmers State Bank building, constructed between 1910-1912 in impressive Classic Revival architecture featuring Corinthian columns and capitals with an adorned pediment. The museum's mission is to collect, preserve, and exhibit items that promote the unique culture and heritage of Williamson County while providing leading-edge historical and cultural education to the public.

The museum features permanent galleries exploring the Founding of the County, Artisans of Williamson County, and a comprehensive World War II exhibit. The collection includes over one hundred photographs in the "Are We There Yet? Transportation in Central Texas" exhibit, depicting historical transportation methods from the 1860s through the 1970s.
